One Country - two systems. Inspired by a trip to China in 2019, I reflected on topics including cultural clash, surveillance and social scoring. Art prints of the images were presented in October 2021 at the Essener Kunstspur in the showroom "dieKunst".

This results in a social credit points system, which is supposed to educate state-controlled to "honesty" and political loyalty by controlling the status and scope of the individual. Surveillance, Big Data and social scoring to fight crime, corruption and fraud.

The novella "Alice in Wonderland" (after Lewis Caroll) addresses distortions of perception, identity and truth (banned in China in 1931 because of talking animals) and appears as an allusion to being lost in a confusing world. To understand it, Alice must overcome her childlike open-mindedness and follow meaningless rules.
The image stages elements of subculture and street art from Hong Kong, stylistic fragments of diverse contexts and typographic relics after C.G. Jung (founder of analytical psychology).

One Country, Two Systems. The former British colony of Hong Kong is an autonomous special administrative region within the People's Republic of China.
Hong Kong's liberal social and economic system is to remain untouched until 2047. This includes civil rights and freedoms such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, the right to strike and academic freedom.
Structures intermingle. Lines of sight diverge.

2019, Hong Kong, I stroll through a shopping mall. Increasingly, I notice black-clad and masked people (Corona was not yet ...). More and more. More. What is this? At some point I realize: This is a student flash mob protest. And I'm in the middle of it. "Five Demands" for democracy I now read everywhere:
1. restoration of parliament.
2. transfer of power to an all-party government.
3. No classification of protesters as "rioters."
4. Amnesty for arrested students.
5. Commission of inquiry into alleged police brutality.
